Who is Marg Haynes?
Marg Haynes is the director of The Australian Institute for Performing Arts (AIPA) Sydney, Australia and the CEO of The Australian Institute for Performing Arts Inc. (AIPAUS) in Los Angeles, California.
Known throughout the industry for her ingenuity, drive and passion – these attributes are contagious for those who work with or around Marg. One can’t help but be inspired by her ‘never say die’ attitude. If there is a task that needs doing, which others may shirk from doing, she will find it and execute it, quietly and without fuss. The thing that people notice most frequently is her reliability to deliver what is promised, on time, every time.
Marg’s unique ability to take what and who she knows of the Australian industry and combine that with what and who she knows in the United States to create unique talent development opportunities - is truly something to behold.
Marg has a knack for creating programmes in both Australia and the US to further the careers of students and performers in film, television, musical theatre and vocals.
Everyone from breakthrough performers to well-known, established artists turn to Marg for guidance and advice on their careers, which she gives with sound knowledge and integrity.
All Little History...
Born and raised in Sydney, Marg attended St Thomas’ primary school in Willoughby, followed by Monte Sant’ Angelo College in North Sydney. She continued on to complete her BA (Hons) at the University of NSW, where she was awarded a scholarship and a research grant to complete her Honours thesis.
In her fourth year of university studies, Marg had three articles published in three separate academic journals and spoke at a symposium on her topic of research. Although tempted to continue her studies and go on to pursue a PhD, a decision was made to defer her Masters and returned to first love, the Performing Arts.
Accreditations include theatre qualifications in teaching and directing from the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) and Trinity College London (TCL). Being awarded the NSW Young Teacher of the Year by Dulcie Lenton in 1998 and completing the practical component for her Fellowship for Trinity College London in November 2000, meant she was the youngest in the world at that time to achieve this.
October 1996, saw the inception of KPG. Established with close friend Belinda Scanlan, KICK Performance Group was a performing arts school for children 3- 16 years. The school grew at a dynamic pace, and with the enormous success Marg took over as sole director in July 1998.
KPG continued its rapid growth leading to the introduction of other businesses (representation, productions and touring) to work hand-in-hand with the school in order to help students develop and gain the most from her contacts and training. In 2000, The Australian Institute for Performing Arts Pty Ltd was registered and linked all of the small businesses together under one umbrella.
Currently
In 2010, AIPA encompasses KICK Performance Group (KPG), The Australian & US Talent Development Program, Professional Actors Workshop Series (PAWS), Professional Actors Masterclass LA (PAM), IMPROVCAMP, AIPA Talent Development Programme, AIPA Travel & Facilitation & AIPA Productions. AIPA also has two not-for-profit sections which it runs for the good of promoting and developing the arts in Australia - Australian Improv Games (AIG) and The Australian Screen Tests (AST).
Marg loves to create new and exciting opportunities for performers. Her keen eye is adept at identifying gaps in a performer’s training and expertly knowing how to fill them. She is a go-to person for many LA casting directors when they are looking for something or someone specific for a role. Recognising talent when she sees it, she also knows what potential looks like and works with performers to help them get there.
Marg is a realist. She applauds hard work and is inspired by those who respect this. There is no quick road to real success. It is through rigorous training, determination having someone like Marg Haynes by your side that will get you there.
